Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in West Palm Beach: What to Know First
A DuraFlex chimney sweep in West Palm Beach typically costs between $189 and $329 for a standard cleaning and Level 1 inspection, and most jobs are completed the same day. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, which means we work on these liner systems every week but we’re not owned by or authorized by the manufacturer. If you own a home in West Palm Beach with a DuraFlex liner, this page explains what we look for, what it costs, and who you’ll meet at the door. Call (728) 203-8687 for a written estimate before any work begins.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
After 23 years of sweeping chimneys in South Florida, we’ve seen the same DuraFlex issues repeat themselves. Here’s what actually goes wrong, which series it affects, and what we do about it.
- Creosote glazing on 316L alloy liners. DuraFlex 316L is the stainless liner you’ll find in most West Palm Beach wood-burning fireplaces. In our humid climate, creosote doesn’t stay dry and flaky like it does up north. It absorbs moisture from the air, becomes sticky, and glazes onto the liner walls. A standard brush won’t remove glaze. We use rotary whip heads with poly brushes specifically sized to the liner’s inner diameter, then run a camera to confirm the walls are clean down to the metal.
- Rusted couplers on multi-story DuraFlex runs. In taller West Palm Beach homes, especially the older two-story builds near Flamingo Park, DuraFlex liners are joined with stainless couplers that corrode faster than the liner sections themselves. We regularly see rust rings at every coupler joint. During a Level 2 inspection, we scan for exactly this and will tell you honestly if the couplers need replacement or if they’ll hold for another season.
- Soot clogging at the tee body on DuraFlex Pro systems. The tee at the base of a liner is where soot and debris collect, and DuraFlex Pro tees with removable cleanout caps make this worse if the cap was installed tight against the liner wall. On gas fireplace flues, we remove the cap, vacuum the tee body, and check the cap gasket for dry rot. South Florida humidity ages those gaskets in three to four years.
- Delaminated inner wall on older DuraFlex Smooth Wall. DuraFlex Smooth Wall liners from the mid-2000s sometimes show inner-wall separation at the seam weld. You won’t see it from the firebox. You’ll see it on camera as a horizontal shadow line that interrupts the flue. If we find it during a sweep, we show you the footage and give you a straight answer on whether the liner is still safe to use or whether you’re looking at a liner replacement. We won’t replace a liner that doesn’t need replacing.
- Improperly supported liner sections after roof rework. West Palm Beach roofing crews are good at what they do, but they don’t always re-secure chimney liners after flashing work. We’ve found DuraFlex liners hanging from their top plate by an inch, slowly pulling apart at the joints. A sweep with a Level 2 camera inspection catches this before the liner drops or separates mid-season. That’s why we run the camera on every DuraFlex job, not just when something looks off.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process
Every DuraFlex job follows the same six steps, whether it’s an annual cleaning or a repair. Here’s how it works when you call (728) 203-8687.
- 1
Scheduling and technician preview. When you book, we send the technician’s name and photo before he arrives. He’ll show a photo ID badge at the door. No exceptions.
- 2
Arrival and setup. We lay drop cloths, set up a HEPA vacuum, and protect the hearth before touching anything. Your floors stay clean.
- 3
Camera inspection first. We run the camera down the full liner run before sweeping. This shows us the liner’s condition, any existing damage, and where the creosote or soot is heaviest. You see the footage too.
- 4
Mechanical sweep matched to the liner. We size the brush head to your DuraFlex liner’s inner diameter. For glazed creosote, we switch to rotary whip heads. For smooth-wall liners, we use poly brushes to avoid scratching the metal. We never use steel brushes on 316L liners unless you want a scratched interior that collects creosote even faster next year.
- 5
Post-sweep camera verification. After sweeping, we run the camera again. You see the before and after. If a section still has buildup, we sweep that section again until it’s clean. One pass isn’t a sweep if the liner isn’t actually clean.
- 6
Written report and pricing for any follow-up work. You get a written price for anything we recommend before that work starts. If it’s a repair, you get the written guarantee in the same document. You’ll never be asked to approve a repair you haven’t seen priced on paper.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Costs in West Palm Beach
Here are the real numbers for DuraFlex work in West Palm Beach. These are the ranges we quote most often, based on the homes we serve from downtown to the Acreage.
- Standard chimney sweep with Level 1 inspection: $189 to $249. Covers a wood-burning fireplace with a single-story flue run and normal creosote buildup.
- Chimney sweep with Level 2 camera inspection: $279 to $329. Covers the full camera scan, which we recommend on any DuraFlex liner that hasn’t been inspected in three or more years.
- Glazed creosote removal (rotary whip): Add $40 to $80. Required when humidity has turned creosote into a tar-like glaze that a standard brush won’t touch.
- Tee body cleanout and gasket replacement: $65 to $120. Common on gas fireplace DuraFlex Pro systems.
- Coupler replacement (per joint): $45 to $85 per coupler, depending on liner diameter and access. Pricey enough to matter, cheap enough that ignoring a rusted coupler is bad math.
What moves the price: flue height, roof access difficulty, how much glazing is present, and whether the cleanout cap has seized. You’ll get a written price before we start, not after. Call (728) 203-8687 for a free estimate.
Why West Palm Beach Homeowners Call Alcott Chimney West Palm Beach for DuraFlex Work
We’ve been serving West Palm Beach homeowners since 2002, and we’ve built our reputation on something simple: you should know exactly who’s walking through your door and exactly what they’ll charge before the work begins. Every Alcott technician is background-checked and identity-verified through the Threshold Standard, which is the vetting process our parent company, Threshold Group, applies to every hire. You get the technician’s name and photo before we arrive, and that technician shows a photo ID at the door. Ruben Castellano, who runs our West Palm Beach operation, grew up in East Los Angeles and learned his trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before spending decades working chimneys full-time. He’s the one who insists every DuraFlex job gets a camera inspection before and after the sweep. If we recommend a repair you don’t need, Ruben will tell you it can wait. That’s the point of doing this honestly. When a DuraFlex repair is needed, we also carry HeatShield and Gelco systems as alternatives, which gives us options if a liner section is too far gone for a patch. And every repair we do comes with a written guarantee. If it fails within the coverage period, the second visit is free. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s printed on every repair invoice. No verbal promises. If I wouldn’t put it in writing, I won’t say it to your face – and the other way around.
FAQs
No. DuraFlex’s warranty requires regular maintenance, and sweeping with the correct brush type and diameter does not void coverage. What voids warranty coverage is using oversized steel brushes, chemical cleaners not rated for stainless liners, or allowing creosote to build up to a point where it causes a chimney fire. We document every sweep with before and after camera footage, which is your proof of maintenance if you ever file a warranty claim.
Once a year if you burn wood, even occasionally. West Palm Beach humidity causes creosote to absorb moisture and become sticky faster than in drier climates. A liner that was swept clean in November can have significant glaze by the following November, even with modest use. Gas fireplaces with DuraFlex Pro liners can go two years between sweeps in most cases, but the tee body should be checked annually. Call (728) 203-8687 and we’ll tell you what your specific setup needs.
Many DuraFlex issues are repairable. Rusted couplers can be swapped, tee gaskets can be replaced, and minor inner-wall delamination can sometimes be stabilized with a HeatShield resurfacing treatment. We’ll only recommend replacement when the liner has structural failure that patching won’t fix, and we’ll show you the camera footage so you can see why. We never recommend a liner replacement on trust alone.
We use genuine DuraFlex components whenever they’re available and the right fit for the job. For couplers, tee caps, and cleanout doors, OEM is usually the correct call. For certain older DuraFlex Smooth Wall sections that are no longer manufactured, we use quality aftermarket equivalents from trade brands we trust, and we’ll tell you which is which on the written estimate before work starts. No box-store substitutes.
Most routine sweeps can be scheduled within a few days. If you hear a liner rattle, smell smoke that isn’t from the fire, or see rust staining at a coupler joint, call (728) 203-8687 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it can wait a few days or needs immediate attention, and a live person answers the call. Always. No voicemail, no callback queue.
